Perceptions on Silence
From the pages of his journal, Rejate shares his experiences on the many facets of silence. Discover how silence is perceived in different planes of existence and learn how to harness it for your own spiritual benefits.

Every time I think of silence, I usually recall places which evoke this state. There was this place in Albay where you can almost hear nothing because of its isolation from the bustling world of men. There are also public places which bring about this state, like libraries or cathedrals. Silence in such an environment provides focus for concentration. In libraries, though many people are present, the silent atmosphere gives clarity, concentration and scholarly learning. In cathedrals, silence gives focus for meditation and prayerful worship. On the top of a hill or in the middle of a thick forest, silence provides a way of gaining perspective to our lives for a greater depth.
I have read stories which portray the moment of clarity between life and death. People who have undergone Near Death Experiences once in their lifetimes often describe this 'haunting' silence as the perfect state that they have ever encountered in their lives. This experience provided an immense change or became the stimuli to affect change when they return to their normal consciousness. Even though having experienced your whole life 'flashing before your eyes' is quite bittersweet, spiritual and psychological crevices are completely encompassed by silence.
Sometimes this kind of silence is not bittersweet but is an ecstatic experience. People who have seen their conception of the Otherworldly or Divine Being has related this feeling of complete contentment and unity. It serves as the medium in which the inner voice is heard. Usually, this inner voice is drowned in the noise of the conscious mind or the pervading state of mind.
This medium can be the womb in which ideas are born-much like the Void. It could be said that Silence is one of the qualities of the Void. The endless potential of the Unmanifest cannot be disputed. Not This, Not That. The Masters of the East have told these ages ago.
Be still and know that I am God. The Divine can only *directly* reveal Its Voice through the state of silence. In meditation, when the practitioner has greatly lessened the mental chatter or inner dialogue, insights are received. Impressions are clear. There is an expansion of consciousness. There is a feeling of passive force pervading the entire being. This has been described by mystics of all paths as being one of the ways in which to contact Divinity although passively. In this way, silence can grant a number of gifts which can help improve the quality of life or the spiritual capacity of a being to evolve to a higher state.
It has been always my wish to prolong this state. Not that I am introverted. Not that I want to shut out all the noise, worries and 'vileness' of the outside world. I am just in love and in awe of this paralyzing yet empowering state of being. I have sought ordinary people and spirits alike to meditate or focus with me, unconsciously or consciously. I always enjoyed exercises like these. Just to still the mind and observe the entirety of the inner silence.
When focusing with people in this manner, they always have this very overpowering mental chatter- everyday worries, obsessions, etc. But after 10 minutes or so, this 'white noise' gives way to a more relaxed frame of mind. After some time, we both achieve total silence. When done consciously, my partner would invariably feel happy, overjoyed, 'enlightened' or empowered.
When I do this exercise with discarnate entities other than humans, I usually feel different. Especially when I focus with spirits who has specialty in this state of being. 'Higher' elementals are great friends to work with and much easier. With the exception of some fire-spirits, elementals can achieve mastery in this respect.
Gnomes would meditate inside caves or inside minerals for decades and arrive at the idea that all matter passes from nothing to nothing. The same with sylphs. Despite the howling of the jet stream or the cheerful noise of the leaves in the yard, they perceive a silence which underlies the movement of the wind. Undines can sense the unfathomable but 'filled' silence in their respective kingdoms. Sometimes they feel that every shade of feeling ever felt can be observed and experienced (and to be dissolved again) in silence.
Planetary spirits or beings from the higher gradations of the astral plane have a more 'cosmic' approach to silence. They would invariably delve into the aspects of the Void in the outer universe and the inner planes. A spirit of Mars told me of the aspect of Silence which could be wielded as a weapon of defense of sorts. This aspect would have the characteristic feeling of being 'invincible'. This silence amplifies the force of the will to generate fields which could render an aggressive intrusion useless. This would give an unshakeable will. It’s like opposing a tidal wave of molten steel or molten lead - you don't wanna go against it.
Extra-planetary spirits would specialize on focusing on the spaces between stars and galaxies. They perceive that silence gives life to activity. Eventually, every space contains countless seeds of inert matter suspended in silence, waiting to be activated.
Whether seeking enlightenment, knowledge or mastery, the evocation of silence would greatly improve the exploration of self and the universe.
About the Author: Chemical Engineering graduate, REJATE, has been stumbling over the path of Bardon Hermeticism for nearly a decade. His main praxis was, is and always will be the lessons laid down by Franz Bardon. His Highest aspiration fuels his study in the various arts of magick and esotericism: Union with All. This would appear confusing since his major interest has always been the exploration of negativity and baneful magick.
