Christianity and Wicca: The Endless Agitation

Christianity and Wicca are two different religious systems that seem to have irresolvable conflict especially in Catholic Philippines. Can a Wiccan be a Christian at the same time? Learn from the Gen-witch herself as she sheds light to these two rather different worlds. By Aodhamair.

Choosing Wicca is not turning against Christianity. The decision of having a Christo-Wiccan lifestyle is not a ticket to eternal damnation. Endless discussions about these two very distinct religions have been tackled over and over again and it seems to be just irresolvable.

More often than not, we, Pagans, have always complained how we are being slandered for our choice of religion. More often than not, we, Pagans, have always asked for respect in what we believe in. And more often than not, we, Pagans, have asked but have seemed to forgotten to give what we, too, are asking for.

Respect. It’s always been that single word that seems to be lost in all of us, Pagans and Christians alike. All of us want respect. Respect in what we believe in, in what we choose, and in what we do. So why don’t we sit down for a while and really open our eyes and our hearts and ask ourselves a few questions. Aren’t we maligning others too in their decision to live both the Christian and Wiccan faith, by saying that it’s a big no-no to do that? Why does this seem so familiar? Isn’t it just like the lack of respect other Christians are giving us, casting aspersion to our faith?

Each spiritual path is an individual’s personal path. No one can tell us what to believe in and what not to believe in. So I write this to everyone, and I say YES, it is possible for Christianity and Wicca to co-exist peacefully as a basis of one’s spiritual practice. Different people have different opinions on this matter. And I am just expressing not dictating my assessment.

Though it may seem contradicting at first, just as long as you truly believe and feel that this is the path that you must walk on, I strongly deem that you can make it possible. No, you are not alone. There are hundreds, if not thousands, in our world who is walking the same path as yours. As you go along, you may be surprised how many practitioners/believers share the same beliefs that you have.

I’ve personally know how it feels like to have no other choices other than #1: be Christian or #2: be Wiccan, and no matter how much you try to find it, there seems to be no #3: Christo-Wicca. And now I come to think of it, maybe I haven’t been looking at the right direction.

I’ve let the opinions of others affect me; some opinions are rather strong that you feel you’ve been slapped in the face. I don’t want you or anyone else to be making that same mistake. No matter how much other people express their opinion, those are just words and they SHOULD NOT HAVE the power to make you feel small or feel incapable of choosing the right decision. This doesn’t only apply in choosing your religion or spiritual lifestyle; this also applies to any aspect of everyday life. We must always remember that we should be in control of ourselves. People are entitled to their opinions just as we are entitled to make our own decisions.

Finding our own spiritual path is tricky, especially when no one seems to understand you. But let us always bear in mind, that in life, we have to take the test first before learning the lesson. Whatever religion we choose, whatever decision we make, we always have to accept the fact that failure can be waiting for us. We do not get everything at the very first try, but we have to take that risk in order to know what is and what is not for us.

Follow your heart and still use your mind, don’t let the words of others dictate you. Never let anyone make you feel less than what you truly are. Stand up and know more, speak up. Be open-minded. If you feel lost, seek refuge in the Divine. Draw your magick circle and listen to what you really want. Only you and you alone can choose the path that you’ll walk on.
